About us

The Salon der Kuenste

Inspired by an old idea: the salon as a social space. A confluence of thought, art, and living.

Who we are

The Salon is not an institution, not a retreat, nor a school in the traditional sense. It is a space for shared artistic work, exchange, and evolution.

It is a place for those who take the time to explore their own unique path. Not in isolation. Not as an afterthought. But through action and dialogue—with an intensity and fulfillment found only in artistic practice.

1

The why behind it

Modern life: precise, yet fragmented. Clocked. Accelerated. Driven by completion. We break the world into functions, methods, goals. We lose the whole: meaning, direction, sense.

The Salon starts here. A supplement to ratio. Artistic practice as a path to reintegrate meaning. Working on the whole, not the part. Within the process. The dialogue. The unfinished.

2

Who is drawn here

Leaders and Decision-Makers: Those carrying heavy responsibility. Seeking a space to see clearly—beyond roles, beyond expectations.

People in Transition: Navigating phases of change. Coming not just to reflect, but to carry their unique path forward—through word, image, or form.

Those with a Dedicated Practice: Authors, creators, thinkers. Not for performance, but to push the boundaries of their work—in dialogue with other life worlds.

3

Our roots

Our roots reach back to Renaissance studiolos and the 18th-century salons of Europe. These were social incubators of exchange and hybridity. Artists, thinkers, patrons, and researchers gathered to work, to experiment—and to radically challenge roles, forms, and certainties.

The Salon der Kuenste revives this practice. Not out of nostalgia, but as a living social form for working together today.

4

How we work

Technique is not the focus. Form is. Our work is process-based: not looking at isolated parts, but the work in its entirety.

Meaning isn’t planned—it reveals itself. A dialogue of perceiving, deciding, shaping. Not for the sake of production. But to inhabit reality with depth. Raw. Real. Unpretentious.

5

What Stays With You

More abundance. More clarity. More of the unique. The Salon is a timeout—yes. But not to be away, but to be here again: in the act, the material, the dialogue. Many return home with light days in their bones—and something that continues to unfold in the everyday.

What remains: memories and encounters to be told for a lifetime. A circle of kindred spirits—accomplices—who walk the path with you.

Back in daily life, the impact shows: perception grows sharper, decisions calmer, creation closer to the self.

6

Solidarity Fund

Suitability and means do not always align. If the content resonates but the finances don’t—reach out. The Salon’s Solidarity Fund provides selective, discreet support.

If our work speaks to you and you wish to help sustain this space, there are many ways: through financial contributions or practical help behind the scenes. Quiet, unhurried, no strings attached—a shared ethos.

Let’s talk.

Your Host

Patrick Castellani

My task is to unite place, people, and time. After thirty years spent at many tables, I see my role as curator: holding the space, guarding the silence. This ensures that the exchange with our masters leads to what the Salon is about—depth, clarity, and a sense of fullness in one's own work.

Time for one’s own

"I returned home with a new sense of clarity and calm—and the courage to let the unfinished be, without the urge to solve it immediately. Since then, the way I work has shifted: slower, more precise—and closer to what is truly mine."

A space where evolution takes hold

"Inge H. Schmidt is both artist and mentor: she possesses the gift of both clarity and inspiration, knowing firsthand the friction of the creative process. To create with Inge is to reach far beyond mere technique. She has the ability to unlock deeper layers of potential in those who learn from her. This is what makes her an exceptional guide."

Watching the work evolve

"I experienced Inge providing exactly the right guidance and opening up spaces with such empathy and intuition—tools I could truly work with. From one canvas to the next, I watched my painting transform—and before long, I simply couldn’t get enough of it."
